Exhibit by Muslim students top

POMONA - On her way to her Cal Poly Pomona class, Noelle Olson paused by a replica of a wall that separates Israeli and Palestinian neighborhoods.

"I couldn't imagine living there," said Olson, a junior. "Oppression is wrong no matter to whom it's happening to."

The 30-foot display, littered Replica Christian Louboutin Shoes with graphic photos of civilian casualties, poems and artwork, was knocked down early Monday. An Israeli flag was also missing.

"It was very disheartening to see it," said Hassen Morad of the Muslim Student Association, the campus organization that erected the wall on Sunday. "We wanted to bring awareness about what goes on in Palestine, what is not being expressed in the media."

"People take it personally, that it's anti-Israel, but it's anti- occupation," sophomore Shaweb Mohammad said.

The makeshift wall in front of the student union was part of the association's Justice Month events, which will include an Israeli checkpoint simulation on Thursday.

"It's a visible way to bring the light to the problem, which is very complicated," said Faye Wachs, professor of sociology at Cal Poly. "But people think it's anti-Jewish. They forget that there is a difference between Zionism and Judaism. I'm Jewish, and I oppose the occupation of Palestine."

Campus police noticed the vandalism during their regular patrol.

No arrests had been made as of Tuesday afternoon, university spokesman Tim Lynch said.

"We embrace free expression of ideas," Lynch said. "The vandalism was both illegal and out of character for this university."

"We need to create a solution," added Wachs. "This does well to present the issues, but how do we fix it?"
