80,000 PACK A PUNCH

THERE are just 24 hours to go and Punchestown is preparing to be rocked to its foundations by 80,000 mad music lovers.

Builders yesterday put the finishing touches to the biggest musical festival of the summer.

Fans will flock to the racecourse from tomorrow to rock alongside Eminem, Arcade Fire, Fatboy Slim, The Black Eyed Peas and The Prodigy.

And as workers toiled to get the seven stages, funfair, bars and shops ready, cops warned revellers: "If you're driving, stay sober."

Officers will be out in force to nab boozy drivers and the advice is to stay at the campsite if you think you're over the limit the morning after.

And speaking of beer, fans with a couple of drinks on board won't have to worry about finding their tent at the end of the night because they can download an iPhone application directing them to it.

But gardai warned yesterday there will be zero-tolerance for troublemakers with more than 200 officers on duty until Monday morning.

Supt John Gilligan said: "This is a big site and safety and security is a key issue.

"As with every year, a large crowd will be attending and we will have a high Garda presence all weekend.

"There will be Garda checkpoints in place, especially on Sunday night, looking out for drink-drivers.

"The event will finish on Sunday but people are allowed to remain there until 6pm on Monday evening.

"We would encourage festival-goers that may be driving to remain at the campsite until Monday to ensure they are not over the alcohol limit.

"We don't want people being arrested at Garda checkpoints over drinks they may have had the night before.

"We hope people will just relax at the seiko replica site until Monday and drift away during the day.

"We are encouraging people not to drive to the event at all but avail of the free park-and-ride facility at Goffs.

"There will be uniformed and plain clothed gardai on site along with 1,858 security personal.

"We are hoping there will be minimum trouble and everyone will enjoy the festival."

Oxegen promoters urged revellers to leave their cars at home and use public transport.

People have also been warned to allow at least three hours extra travel time to and from the venue as traffic tailbacks are expected.

As many as 2,000 workers have been building the festival stages and tent areas over the last week.

For the first time at an Irish festival Nokia is bringing a full 3D Audio Visual Show to their brand new stage at this year's Oxegen.

The Nokia Live Stage with a massive 100sq m Full HD Screen - one of the largest mobile screens in the world - will feature DJs and festival TV channel.

And on Friday and Saturday night revellers can pop on a pair of 3D glasses to enjoy the sights and sounds of a 3D disco.
