Appledore-built ship stars in

An appledore ship has starred in a blockbuster film alongside Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, David Tennant and Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding.

The Appledore built replica of the Golden Hinde, the flagship of Sir Francis Drake during his voyage around the world, has played a part in St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fitton's Gold.

The replica, a fully working ship, was built by J Hinks and Son Shipbuilders and launched from Appledore in 1973.

It has circumnavigated the globe sailing more than 140,000 miles and is berthed at St Mary Overie Dock in London.

Last year singer Sarah Harding and actresses Tamsin Egerton and Talulah Riley jumped aboard the Golden Hinde for the filming.

One of those to notice the ship in the film was Appledore councillor and daughter of Mr Hinks, Alison Boyle.

She was delighted to see the ship her father's yard built nearly 40 years ago.

She said: "The film was great fun but it was even more fun for me to see the appearance of the Golden Hinde."

She added that if her father was still alive he would have been delighted the Golden Hinde had a connection with St Trinian's as well as Drake and maritime adventure.
