The annual event, which sees youngsters take to the stage to dance and sing, will see former gang show members return to watch the celebrations.

One of the organisers, Sylvia Evans, said: "We hope as many people as possible come, and we are asking anyone that used to be in the gang show to come back and watch wearing their red neckerchiefs to celebrate the 50th anniversary which should be a big event.

"I hope people come and support it so we can keep going for another 50 years."

Gloucester Gang Show started its life in a church hall in the city in 1959 when a group of Scouters decided to put on a show with the title It's a Great, Great Game.

After the success of the show the production moved to the Crypt School in Gloucester where it stayed for the next 12 years.

Sylvia, 44, who joined the Gloucester Gang Show in 1976, said: "I really believe in the Gloucester Gang Show - it really gives youngsters a chance to get on the stage which they may never have done before.

"Everyone involved volunteers, from the performers to costume makers, and that's what makes it so special."

The group is coming to the end of six months of intensive rehearsals for its annual show, which will be staged in April.

It runs for the whole week at the Bacon Theatre in Hatherley Lane, Cheltenham, from Tuesday, April 6, to Saturday, April 10.

Shows will start at 7.15pm each day with an additional matinee performance on Saturday at 2.15pm.

The reunion for former cast Replica Chopard Watches members will be on Wednesday.

Tickets can be bought from Rob Pellatt on 01452 304 024 or visit .
