MY KIND OF TOWN WILLEMSTAD
WHY WILLEMSTAD? I lived in Willemstad, Curacao's capital, for two years. It has everything - sun, beach, music, art - in a laid-back environment. There aren't that many visitors and the local culture is a fantastic mix of Dutch, Spanish and Papiamento, a creole language.
Rolex WatchesWHAT DO YOU MISS MOST WHEN YOU ARE AWAY? The weather. It is sunny and hot pretty much every day of the year but there is also a beautiful light breeze that makes everything perfect.
WHAT'S THE FIRST THING YOU DO WHEN YOU RETURN? Jump on a mountain bike and check out the World Cup mountain bike track at Jan Thiel. Then we hop over to Zanzibar, at Jan Thiel, to grab an Amstel Bright (local beer) and watch the sunset from the beach.
WHERE'S THE BEST PLACE TO STAY? There are so many options. Lions Dive Beach Resort, Bapor Kibra (005999 434 8888; lionsdive.com; doubles from Pounds 150), is low key and right on the beach. For something a little more classy, try the Avila Hotel, 130 Penstraat (461 4377; avilahotel. com; doubles from Pounds 190).
WHERE WOULD YOU MEET FRIENDS FOR A DRINK? Hemingway, at Lions Dive Hotel Resort, and all the other bars along that beach, is usually where everyone meets after work for drinks. The islanders love happy hour, so you can usually find a listing of who is having their happy hour and when, in the tourist publications. Mambo beach is another good one.
Gucci WatchesWHERE ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PLACES FOR LUNCH? For the true Curacao experience go to Jaanchies on Westpunt 15 (864 0126). The owner is also the talking menu. Service is slow and food is simple. Try the iguana.
AND FOR DINNER? For salsa, rum, a great Caribbean feel and an interesting mix of different cuisines try Mundo Bizarro, Nieuwstraat 12, Pietermaai Smal (461 6767; mundobizarrocuracao.com). Sit upstairs for dinner or downstairs for drinks. Or there's the Gouverneur De Rouville (462 5999; de-gouverneur. com) in Otrabanda. Get a table on the terrace for a view of the Unesco World Heritage area of Willemstad.
WHERE WOULD YOU SEND A FIRSTTIME VISITOR? Take a trip around the island with PeterTrips (petertrips. com) to get a feel for everything Willemstad has to offer. If you just want to relax, consider taking a boat out to Kleine Curacao, a tiny uninhabited island off the coast of Curacao with incredible beaches, snorkelling and diving.
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL THEM TO AVOID? They have been building some shopping malls in the downtown area but there are so many incredible things to do on the island, I'd go exploring instead.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT OR TAXI? There are taxis and public transport but if you want to explore, rent a car.
Accutron Replica Watches HANDBAG OR MONEYBELT? Handbag, but like anywhere, be careful with your belongings.
WHAT SHOULD I TAKE HOME? Aloe vera gel, which I use for mosquito bites, sunburn and as a moisturiser. You can buy it everywhere on the island but the best place is at the aloe vera plantation, where you can see how it's made.
AND IF I'VE ONLY TIME FOR ONE SHOP? Hokoskokos, Plantage Granbeeuw Cas Coraweg naast 6 (hokoskokos.com). This store is full of bits and pieces for the home, with lots of traditional Curacao paintings and art thrown in.

WHAT'S ON TODAY: The action starts early today with TV3's new current affairs show, The Nation, making its debut at 11am. Duncan Garner is the best political reporter-analyst in the country and despite the weird time slot, we will watch with interest. At night, when the grown-ups are still allowed to be up, Midsomer Murders on Prime at 8.30pm remains the pick.
TOMORROW:The Zoo (TV One, 7pm) continues with its array of cute animals but for the rest of the night, it's Prime. The highlight promises to be Stephen Fry (no relation to Cadbury or Hudson) in search of the elusive kakapo, and we all know what country that's in - New Zealand. Last Chance to See starts at 8.30pm. In a quirk of scheduling, that's followed at 9.30pm by Stephen Fry hosting a panel show full of quirky facts.
MONDAY: Reality TV with Dog Squad and Replica Angular Momentum Watches The Inspectors on One, then at 8.30pm it's the opposite, Un- Reality TV, with Band of Brothers, alternatively titled, how the Yanks won the war for us, making its farewell tonight. Desperate Housewives (TV2, 8.30pm) has got silly. The rugby league on Sky Sport is the best of the rest at 9pm.
TUESDAY: Ignore the silly story line about Steve and Becky and do watch Coro St. It still has enough endearing moments to make it well worth watching. And, it has to be said, some moments that can only be described as cringe-inducing. House (TV3, 8.30pm) is still great, while Real Crime on One at 9.30pm is a bit like a visit from the in- laws, too dark and unrelenting to enjoy.
WEDNESDAY: Masterchef New Zealand is out on its own. Dare I say it, the most enjoyable programme on TV at the moment. It has suspense, humour, action, entertainment and good grub on it. Whoever said we had too many cooking programmes on the telly? (You did, dear Mrs B).
THURSDAY: Coro St again, then the final of NZ's Hottest Home Baker is on TV3 at 8.30pm. It's not as good as Masterchef, and the contestants seem a bit up themselves, but it is entertaining.
FRIDAY: Watch the footy or the league, or have a night out, it's up to you.
--------------------
Replica Blancpain WatchesIN RECENT times the media have had a tough old time trying to make a buck.
As advertising volumes dropped during the global recession, profits were slashed and only the efficient survived.
Television was hit hard, possibly for the first time in its existence, and laid off staff.
Perhaps that partly explains the incestuous nature of many of their "news" items on the 7pm current affairs shows. Both Campbell Live on TV3 and Close Up on TV One are guilty of it. One example came this week on Close Up when Mark Sainsbury promised us a riveting item about a deserving group of people being taken out for dinner.
They were, too. A group of women who'd all helped others fight children's cancer were as deserving as they come, but the treat? Naturally, it was cooked by Masterchef contestants and introduced by one of the judges. While it was a nice treat, it was as much an ad for their own show. Masterchef, of course, is on TV One at 7.30pm on Wednesdays.
It was hardly news, or current affairs, or even raisin affairs, and as a result, everyone tries just a little bit too hard to make it watchable. They failed. The networks need to treat news as sacrosanct and forget about peddling their own wares. It's weary.

Tintin And The Terror Alert; E
Byline: ALAN CARSON
FUNNYMAN Dom Joly sparked a terror alert while filming a TV stunt dressed as cartoon boy detective Tintin.
The Trigger Happy TV star had his skean dubh confiscated by officials while filming a documentary on the Belgian junior reporter.
He dressed up as the cartoon character during a trip to the island of Barra - complete with red kilt and blue beret.
Chopard WatchesBut Joly was nabbed by officials at Glasgow Airport after trying to take the clothes and knife through security.
He revealed: "We hired a kilt and all the trimmings, including a homemade beret with red pompom. "But airport security is a problem for Tintin.
"Firstly the X-ray machine showed up the replica knife that traditionally accompanies Scottish garb, which was immediately confiscated.
"This led to a thorough search of Tintin's suitcase.
"The official tried not to look too closely at the bottles of orange hair dye and the copy of Men's Muscle Week ly.
"They asked who the bag belonged to so I said: 'It's Tintin's technically. It's a prop suitcase.
"Staring at out our group in which only one of us was wearing plus-fours, a sky-blue jumper and had dyed orange hair she asked: 'Which one of youse is Tintin? "I looked a wholesale lingerie little more like Tintin's unhealthy elder brother than the real thing but at least I made the effort.
"She was clearly not a fan. It was all getting very surreal."
Joly and his production crew were finally allowed to pass through and boarded the tiny aircraft to Barra.
He is shooting a documentary for Channel 4 about Tintin and was keen to find the Black Island that features in the book of the same name. The star visited the village of Castlebay, which Tintin writer Herge used for the village of Kiltoch in Sexy Camisoles the 1938 book in which Tintin dresses in a kilt.
After touring the island Joly spent a wild night in an island pub before heading back to Glasgow and catching a ferry to Arran.
The visit north of the Border was the final piece in his forthcoming programme about the character.
Tintin nut Joly is making an hourlong documentary to mark the 80th anniversary of the first story.
Joly added: "It's not easy this Tintin lark."
A Glasgow Airport spokesman said: "It is unfortunate that the skean dubh, despite being made of plastic, could not be taken on the aircraft." SUNDAY EMAIL

Bits and Pieces More memories
After reading about the Kinsey Players and the years they performed in the area, Margaret Musselman of Wooster wrote that she and her brother, Jerry Middleton, can recall hearing their parents talk about the troupe and the lady who ran the show -- Madge Kinsey Graf.
(Graf was the daughter of founding managers, M.L. and Beth Kinsey, and received top billing when she made her stage debut in 1901 as "Baby Madge, Phenomenal Child Artist.")
"We lived in Loudonville at the time and the story was that our dad was out of work when he went to watch the men set up the tent," recalled Musselman. "When he asked if he could help, they hired him for a few dollars."
Soon Musselman's mother was asked if she would be interested in doing the cast's laundry while they were performing in town. She agreed.
Cartier Watches"Through the years Mom would tell how she washed and ironed clothes all day," said Musselman. "The outfits had to be dried outside on a clothesline. She would starch and press the ruffles on the ladies' costumes and said the men liked the way she starched and ironed their white shirts.
"It must have been a highlight of Mom's life," Musselman pointed out, "because she loved to tell about it."
Fond memory
Chopard Replica Watches Julanne (Workman) Phillips of Millersburg called to say she remembered seeing the Kinsey Players years ago when they appeared in town.
"We lived right near the park where they performed," said the 83- year-old."My parents would give me money to go see their show.
"I loved that group," she stated.
Wooster Lumber Girls
After Wooster historian Harry McClarran asked for photos of the Wooster Lumber Girls Fast-Pitch Softball Team, Vicki (Sutherland) Ritchie wrote to say she played the 1971 season with the team.
"Mr. Carter was one of the greatest sponsors that a team could have," said the former shortstop. "He made sure the girls had everything that was necessary to have a winning team.
"I loved every moment of every game," she continued. "It was a great team and a great league for girls and young women. I often wonder myself what happened to all the girls on the team."
Julie Wiles wrote to say she was the person who originally got Louie Carter to sponsor the Lumber Girls team when it was still Tri- City Cardinals of Dalton. She mentioned teammates Judy Stine, Darlene Sapp and Dot Meola.
Great pickles
Ralph Martin of Goshen, Ind., said he enjoyed the column about the Wooster Preserving Co.
"When Smucker's bought Wooster Preserving in 1964," he wrote, "I became the plant manager until it was moved to Medina Sexy Clothes with another pickle plant bought by Smucker's. We made great pickles."
Smucker's eventually exited the pickle business, he explained.
FYI
The term "the whole 9 yards" came from WWII fighter pilots in the South Pacific. When arming their airplanes on the ground, the .50 caliber machine gun ammo belts measured exactly 27 feet, before being loaded into the fuselage. If the pilots fired all their ammo at a target, it got "the whole 9 yards."

Bit battered after two falls i
THERE'S been a great deal of excitement and packing in the yard over the past few days; Sexy Clothes tonight, God willing, Scooby (Woodfalls Inigo Jones) should board his plane destined for the Rolex Kentucky three-day event in America.
Assuming I have a less eventful week than last week, I should join him on Sunday.
Last week I began to think someone had it in for me; two falls in the space of three days has left me slightly blackened, bruised and limping. Only a flesh wound, I'll get over it - but for the moment I'm feeling somewhat battered.
Scooby going to Kentucky is something of a landmark for me; he's the most advanced horse on my long-term programme to find and produce myself top quality horses.
About six years ago I took a long, hard look at my situation and decided that the only way to afford the quality of horse I needed to be competitive at the top, was to buy them at a young age and produce them myself.
Some of the horses would inevitably have to be sold along the way to finance the project and the real challenge would be to keep them coming through with a new intake at the start of the chain each year.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Replica WatchesThe oldest horses on my programme are now 10: Scooby is making his four-star debut next week, while others, such as French Leave, Porloe Alvin and Simon Porloe, are shortly to make their first forays into three-star level. I have, sadly, had to sell some very talented horses along the way, and with the economic climate as chilly as it is at present, I will probably have to part with some others over the course of the next few months.
From the Blue Grass of Kentucky, it'll be straight back home and into Badminton with
Shaabrak (Ross). Unfortunately, we had a disastrous prep event in Fontainebleau four weeks ago - lying third after the cross country, Ross got more and more lethargic as he warmed up for the show jumping. By the time he went into the ring he had no push off the floor from behind in his jump and proceeded to rack up a cricket score.
Clearly there was something physically wrong with him; in retrospect I probably should have pulled him out of the ring, but one is always wise in hindsight. Bizarrely he was still clinically sound, and although the lack of power made me suspect he'd tied up, the blood results all came back fine.
Our physio and vet later diagnosed a recurrence of an old sacroiliac injury and extensive muscle strain through his hind quarters.
In my current state of physical disarray, I can utterly sympathise with how Ross must have felt in the show jumping - I find it uncomfortable just walking up steps, let alone pushing off to jump a fence.
Happily, with my wonderful support team (vet, physio, farrier, Caroline, Tiggy, etc etc) fully mobilised, Ross is almost Sexy Costumes fully recovered and is still on target for Badminton. Now there's just the small matter of patching up the jockey....

BRUCE LEE
THERE has been plenty of chat between Lee Gilmour and his former St Helens pals Leon Pryce and Nick Fozzard this week.
But very little of it has been about tomorrow's game when Huddersfield Giants can further enhance their credentials as Engage Super League contenders.
"A couple of Leon's friends are involved in a mixed martial arts show in Leeds on Sunday night," explained ex-Saints favourite Gilmour, 32.
"And we're all meeting up after the game to go and watch. "So, we've been too busy making arrangements to chat about the match.
"I'm sure though there will be plenty of banter, depending on the result."
Sexy Leather LingerieIt will be the first time Gilmour has lined up against his old Knowsley Road mates since quitting the club at the end of last season.
"It will be a bit strange," added Gilmour, who has quickly become a favourite with Giants fans due to his all-action style. "But it's not as bad as 'Longy' (Sean Long) whose first game for Hull was against Saints.
"I've been here nearly five months now, played plenty of games and feel very comfortable."
The Wigan and Bradford old boy has been instrumental in helping Giants to third place in the table, recording a victory over champions Leeds along the way.
Sexy ClubwearIndeed, many St Helens supporters believe the club, despite winning five of their opening seven fixtures, should have done more to keep him and Long.
Gilmour puts Huddersfield's form down to coach Nathan Brown.
"He's been absolutely brilliant; a really smart coach," said Gilmour, who signed a two-year deal with Giants after almost 150 appearances for Saints.
"He is very smart offensively and has also given Huddersfield one of the best defensive records.
"There is a brilliant team spirit and everyone wants to play for him. But he also has a very good backroom team around him and that's part of the reason too."
Gilmour was on the receiving end last season when Giants stunned Saints in the Challenge Cup semifinals and he still keeps a close eye on his previous club's fortunes.
"I think they've made a pretty decent start," he said. "When they lost to Hull KR, they had six or seven players missing.
"And because they've not got the biggest squad that's always going to be a tough ask for the younger players.
Replica Angular Momentum Watches"But they've still got some top names as they showed by beating Warrington, who were one of the form teams going into last weekend.
"However, I've no regrets about coming to Huddersfield. I've plenty of mates at Saints but I definitely want us to beat them tomorrow."

Brown Giants were not quite go
HUDDERSFIELD coach Nathan Brown insisted the final scoreline was tough on his side but he had no complaints about either the result or the performance of referee Thierry Alibert after watching his side go down 24-6 at home to St Helens.
Sexy ShoesSaints got off to a flier, with left winger Francis Meli scoring two tries in the first 15 minutes, but they were forced to sweat on the outcome as the Giants used the wind in the second half to stage a spirited fightback.
LOST: Danny Brough's debut ended in failure.
Substitute Scott Grix pulled a try back but the visitors' defence was superb and they clinched victory with late tries from James Graham and Kyle Eastmond to condemn Huddersfield to a third defeat.
Breitling Watches"We just weren't quite good enough," said Brown.
"I don't think the scoreline was indicative of the game - it was a bit closer than that - but we turned over too much ball.
"Too many people wanted to blame the ref instead of getting their own game in order. If we get our game in order, we are hard to beat."
St Helens coach Mick Potter was delighted with his side's victory which lifts them up to third and sets Angular Momentum Watches them up nicely for Friday's derby with leaders Wigan.
"It was good to come here and get the two points," he said. "Huddersfield made it very difficult for us. It was a big test, especially with the wind against us in the second half, and I thought we hung in very well. They put us under a lot of pressure."

50-year old Sanyo Maris makign
The classic ocean racing yacht Sanyo Marls has come out of retirement to celebrate the 50th anniversary of her launching by competing in two of Australia's toughest ocean races, the Hempel to Gosford Lord Howe Island and the Rolex Sydney Hobart. Sanyo Maris will be one of the oldest boats in the Rolex Sydney Hobart fleet but she has already made yachting history with her comeback by winning IRC honours in the 414 nautical mile Gosford Lord Howe Island race.
Accutron Replica WatchesShe is the oldest boat in Australian yachting history to win a Category 1 ocean race. Given similar conditions, and with her low IRC rating, she could achieve another top handicap position in the 628 nautical mile Rolex Sydney Hobart.
Ian Kiernan, a solo round-the-world yachtsman and founder of Clean Up Australia, has owned Sanyo Marls for 38 years but the boat now has three other part-owners, including brother and sister duo Tiare Tomaszewki and Ben Hawke, whose grandfather, the marine artist Jack Earl, was the original owner of Marls. He named the boat after his daughter Marls, their mother. A third new partner is Lord Howe Island identity John Green, but he missed the Lord Howe Island Race after dislocating his shoulder.
Tiare sailed to Lord Howe Island after working tirelessly for almost three months to get the boat prepared for the race across the northern Tasman Sea. She will race to Hobart with her brother Mathew Tomaszewski on the boat, her first Rolex Sydney Hobart, although she has sailed in many other long offshore races.
Brother Ben sailed extensively with Ian Kiernan in the Pacific after bought the boat, and prefers cruising to racing.
Sanyo Maris is a classic yawl-rigged, timber-hulled Tasman Seabird class yacht, designed by the late Alan Payne and launched by Jack Earl in 1958 to replace his famous ketch Kathleen, which he skippered in the inaugural Sydney Hobart in 1945 and later cruised around the world. (The Australian National Maritime Museum now owns Kathleen in its fleet of historic vessels.)
Jack Earl Sexy Leather Lingerie raced Marls to Hobart in 1960 and 1961 (placing 5th overall) before setting sail on an extended cruise of the Pacific with his wife Kathleen and their children. The family lived aboard the boat in Hawaii, Tahiti and other ports.
"Our mother Maris' trip in the Pacific was the reason Tiare and I have Polynesian names," explains Tiare's equally sea-going sister Leilani. "The has second generation ties to many of the people they met then."
When Earl returned to Sydney he put the boat up for sale and, as he recalls, Ian Kiernan was "entranced by Marls sitting in Mosman Bay."
Over the 38 years that he has owned Maris, Kiernan encountered some dramatic moments at sea with the boat, but the day he rowed out to meet Earl for the first time on board Maris certainly had its moments.

"A savage southerly buster arrived and an out-of-control Bluebird surfed past, gybed, and the boom swept a fat guy into the bay," Kiernan recalls. "He lacked swimming ability and I dived in and got him ashore, re-boarded Marls and rowed back with the sale agreed and the finest friend you could image, Jack Earl."
According to Kiernan, the sale included an agreement in which Earl would teach him how to cross oceans in this wonderful vessel.
"He certainly did that," recalls Kiernan. "I became

Appledore-built ship stars in
An appledore ship has starred in a blockbuster film alongside Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, David Tennant and Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding.
The Appledore built replica of the Golden Hinde, the flagship of Sir Francis Drake during his voyage around the world, has played a part in St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fitton's Gold.
The replica, a fully working ship, was built by J Hinks and Son Shipbuilders and launched from Appledore in 1973.
Sexy Camisoles Replica Swiss Army WatchesIt has circumnavigated the globe sailing more than 140,000 miles and is berthed at St Mary Overie Dock in London.
Last year singer Sarah Harding and actresses Tamsin Egerton and Talulah Riley jumped aboard the Golden Hinde for the filming.
One of those to notice the ship in the film was Appledore councillor and daughter of Mr Hinks, Alison Boyle.
She was delighted to see the ship her father's yard built nearly 40 years ago.
Replica Accutron WatchesShe said: "The film was great fun but it was even more fun for me to see the appearance of the Golden Hinde."
She added that if her father was still alive he would have been delighted the Golden Hinde had a connection with St Trinian's as well as Drake and maritime adventure.

Apple Creek, other areas monit
The forecast appears ideal for a slow melt at Apple Creek, according to Alan Schlag, hydrologist for the National Weather Service.
He said Apple Creek has established a pathway where the water is moving. Any new water has a place to go and move downstream.
Schlag said a thawing ground is helping soak up some of the pooled water near Menoken.
Burleigh County Emergency manager Mary Senger said Apple Creek is expected to crest at 15.1 feet by 1 a.m. Saturday morning.
Replica Breguet WatchesAt 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, the creek was at 12.2 feet; flood stage is 15 feet. She said officials remained cautiously optimistic the water wouldn't cause serious problems.
Officials continued to keep watch. Only one county road had to be closed due to overland flooding.

She said the Apple Creek and Missouri River continue to be monitored for any dramatic change.
Senger said sandbags have been staged at Prairie Rose Elementary School, the Missouri Valley Fairgrounds and the city of Lincoln shop. People are using them.
"We have replenished them at the fairgrounds," she said.
The self-filling sandbag site at the Burleigh County shop remains open, and Bismarck's 11 self-filling sites remain open for public use.
"We're not seeing any ice issues now," she said.
